Poem: “Firstborn of Creation: Light”

Firstborn of Creation: light
Longs for death in darkness and rebirth as sight
The ancient wind that onetime swirled and sung
Through stars and nebulae when worlds were first begun
Now wafts as breath and fills this being’s lungs
And fire, sacred primordial fire
Onetime spanned the ancient sky
And smelted gold of Apollo’s lyre
Now courses in warm blood and leaps in hot desire.

A stillness uncreated
At once upon a glassy starlit face
A spirit stirs, a purposed breeze
That agitates the Orphic fog
A wind strives to become breath
A breath strives to become speech
The Word is born this day
Spanning all gulfs, conciliating all estrangement
Darkness lighting, righting derangement

The air incorporal, now I take in hent
Fashion it with care, and diligent
Modelling it on the stars above
That pronounce the sacred name of Love
This word is born upon my breath
By the engine of sublime emotion
And the spirit of divine devotion
Far, far upon the airy ocean
Cast upon the waters of the world-soul
Destined for some unthought shoal
In realms unknown and times untold

Be at peace, at peace
The spirit longs for its release
So with this word, give up the ghost
Offer up what you desire most
Offer up your heart, your mind
The one to lose his life shall find.

  1. Interesting poem! 🙂

  2. Do you like to explore scientific topics in your artwork?

If by “science” you mean mostly contemporary theories of physics, then no. Do you?

      1. I´m talking about science in general, all of its disciplines; natural, technical and social; fundamental and applied…

      2. Max Leyf says:

I probably have to say “no.” Even though scientia in Latin just means “knowledge,” today “science” usually indicates the results of applying a specific reductionist method to various aspects of nature and I am only marginally interested in this. I have written a bit on the history and philosophy of science on this site, in case you are interested. Here is one example: https://theoriapress.wordpress.com/2019/03/21/throwing-down-the-gauntlet-on-the-hard-problem-of-consciousness-5-sunrise-of-the-idols/
