Poem: “Autumn’s sentinels”

Fire-fretted, a thousand listening faces
Trace the ecliptic of the sky
Intent to hear the choirs on high
That sound in tones of golden light
And body forth the season’s anthem
There, in noble file standing
At attention, no tone is ever lost
From summer’s dog-days
Till their death by frost
To autumn’s sentinels.
